Chief Instructor Sensei Heiko Rommelmann, Jr.

Heiko Rommelmann, Jr has well over 20 years of Judo and Jujitsu experience. He was a member of the U.S. Jujitsu Team from 1987 - 1990 and was a Gold Medalist at the 1990 World Jujitsu Championships in Winston-Salem, NC. Heiko along with his kata partner, Jeff Giunta, have won the Over-All in Kata at the US National Championships ten times. They have represented the U.S. at six Pan-Am Championships (2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008) for Judo Kata and were a 3 time Gold Medalists at the 2007 and 2008 Pan Am Championships. Heiko and Jeff competed in the 2005 World Masters Championship (Gold) in Missisagua, Canada, the 2007 1st Kodokan International Kata Tournament in Tokyo, Japan, the 2008 International Judo Federation 1st World Kata Cup in Paris, France, the 2009 IJF World Championship in Malta and the 2011 IJF World Championship in Frankfurt, Germany. In addition to this, Heiko has also competed in shiai at many tournaments including Am-Can (gold 2006) and the NY State Empire State Games in which he was a two time gold medalist (2001, 2008). He is the Activities Director and an instructor at the George Harris YMCA/YWCA International Judo Camp (New York), has been an instructor at the Spirit of the Eagle International Judo Camp (Ohio), has been an instructor at the Europa Judo Camp (Odessa, Ukraine) and has been an instructor at the Greatest Camp on Earth (North Carolina). He is also the Co-Developer of the Ground Defensive Tactics that was taught and used by the Rochester Police Department Defensive Tactics Unit. Heiko is currently the Chairman of USJA’s Kata Committee.
